Second Milton Keynes Ladies' Charity Table Tennis Tournament: More Than a Tournament

On 6 September, Milton Keynes Table Tennis Centre hosted its second annual ladies' charity tournament. Fourteen women took part in a format designed around fun and fair play, with two group rounds leading to a main event and a consolation final. The event raised £650 for Breast Cancer Now and collected more than 100 bras for recycling. Organised by Julie Snowdon, a Table Tennis England staff member and centre secretary, the tournament drew most of its entry from women who attend the centre's monthly ladies-only sessions. The emphasis was on participation and community rather than high-level competition. The £650 donation will support Breast Cancer Now's work for people affected by breast cancer. The bras collected will go to an Against Breast Cancer recycling scheme, which raises funds while reducing textile waste. Though the event had no national rankings, prize money or professional players, its value lies in grassroots outreach. Regular sessions and friendly tournaments help keep recreational players engaged and encourage more women to join the sport.
